Is it related to the notes.ini file?

Is it installed in a terminal server evironment?

Subject: terminal server 2003 64-bit evironment

Oh, it was on the thin client connected to terminal server 2003 64-bit. The lotus notes client was installed on this 2003 server and was running ok for a few months.

Only after recent failed attempt to upgrade to r8.0.2 then this problem surfaced.

I was able to workaround by clicking on the nlnotes.exe first will then lanuch a new setup screen which I click “cancel” and proceed to lanuch notes.exe again. Only thing is that I have re-do the client setup again for each users.

I’ve reported this problem to IBM but was told that lotus notes client was not supported in Windows 2003 64-bit and I have to wait for the new releast R8.5.

Subject: 8.5.1 on Terminal Server 2003 32/64 bit

After many days of trying, I finally get it to works.

For those who want to try R8.5.1 muti-user installation on the terminal server 2003, may follow the below steps:

1)After installed the 8.5.1, search the notes,ini and it should not appear in the windows folder. Delete it if you found it there.

  1. The notes.ini file should appears in c:\document & setting\All users\application data\lotus\notes\data\ and the content in it should be:

[Notes]

KitType=1

SharedDataDirectory=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\Shared

InstallType=6

  1. edit the following registry:

[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\DataPath] Remove the value.

[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\MultiUser] Change the value from 0 to 1.

[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0\DataPath] Remove the value.

[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0\MultiUser] Change the value from 0 to 1.

Good Luck.

If you’ve got “UseBasicNotes=1” in the ini file, there is a known issue with the client hanging after the install. You can manually kill all the Notes tasks via the Windows Task Manager or reboot.

What version of Notes are you running? Is it a fresh install or an upgrade?

Subject: Are You using Vista …

Hi,

if you are using ND8.0.2 on Vista, you must install using Run as admin … (Right click on install … and choose Run as admin)

If you are not using Run as admin … Vista UAC vil not give you high enough access for Notes to run.

Subject: A work around solution

Temporary found a work around by clicking on the nlnote.exe first and then re-click on notes.exe to start again.

No sure why but at least I could start the notes session now.
