Notes 8.5: new template on 8.02 - signature problem

A new feature of the Notes client 8.5 is its support of a rich text signature.

Unfortunately if you combine the 8.5 template with Notes 8.0.2 (migration szenario!), it will not insert any signature at all.

Any known solution?

Subject: use More | Insert Signature | From Profile…

Apparently the 8.5 mail template code relies on an undocumented (not in designer help) new to 8.5 NotesRichText class “importItem” function that is not available in previous versions.

In “CoreEmailClasses” script library, there is an error message that states the following workaround:

The mail signature preference you have specified is not supported with the Notes version and Notes mail template version you are using.

You must upgrade to a supported Notes and mail template combination to use this feature.

To insert a signature manually each time you compose a new message, use the ""More > Insert Signature > Import from File action.

Manually adding a signature on every message (3 clicks!) is NOT functional. I was hoping there was a better way to restore functionality, but for now I will have to revert to the old R8 dwa8.ntf template.

Subject: migration

Not that I can answer your problem, sorry about that, but this isn’t really a migration scenario.

During migration upgrade server first, then client, then mail template. You should never be using a mail template newer than your client version

Subject: in the perfect world - yes, you are right, but …

Dan, have you heard anything from Lotus about a change in the signature handling starting with 8.5?

In my szenario I am trying out 8.5 as pilot on my notebook and then switched to a Citrix environment with 8.0.2 installation base…

Maybe this little feature change will hold up a lot of willing people to upgrade.

Subject: signatures

The signature handling has changed yes, the preferences section allows you to add a rich text signature. Haven’t looked into it properly yet as we’re not upgrading but you might want to read the release notes or the help I guess

Subject: Thanks

Thanks for your help Dan.

Because the release notes and help notes did not answer my questions so far, I am here…

But maybe I am just too blind to look at the right places.

Subject: Solved

I solved the problem by migrating clients from 8.0.2 to 8.5
