Notes 8.5 keeps hanging when using right mouse click

My notes 8.5 keeps hanging whenever1. I use my right mouse button to get the database properties (right mouse button is ok to get document properties, workspace properties)

  1. When I try to remove a db icon from the workspace

  2. When I try to create new replica

whenever i do the above 3, my notes just doesnt do anything. If i look at the task manager, it says it is running. However, the moment i click on the workspace again, i get another task for Workspace with a “Not Responding”.

I have done

  • compact workspace

  • deleted the desktop8.ndk to get a new one

  • deleted bookmark.nsf to create a new one

  • deleted the cache.ndk

to no avail.

I have a workmate who does NOT have this problem. The only difference is that she has 2.99GB in RAM while I only have 1.99GB in RAM.

Is this a memory problem?

Subject: need more information…

Can’t reproduce this problem on both 8.5 and 8.5.1 daily build.Notes client works fine when right mouse button to get the db properties even removing db and create new replica. this problem is not like a memory issue.

so need more information:

is it a specific problem on only one db? Can you reproduced this problem on all DB icons in Notes workspace?

is it a only right mouse issue? Can you do that via other menu successfully?

Collecting data for a hang
If the Notes Client is unresponsive, and remains unresponsive, it may be hung.

To determine the root cause of the hang, an NSD and Java core file need to be generated.
To do so, perform the following steps: Open a DOS command prompt

Switch to the Notes data directory

Run …\NSD (no args, assuming that the program dir is “above” the data directory

After the NSD completes, supply these 2 files, or do an ISA data collection

data\IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT\nsd*.txt file

data\workspace\logs\java*.txt file “the Java core file”

Subject: NSD files created - how do i attach them

I ran \NSD as suggested and have generated the 2 files. How do I attach them in this forum

I can reproduce it everytime i use my right mouse on any db on my workspace.

In terms of properties, I can do file-application-properties way.

I can do file-application-new copy and I get the new copy popup window

If I do file-replication-new copy, notes 8.5 hangs

Subject: Using nlnotes seem to get rid of problem

Hi, I changed my notes8 to run nlnotes.exe and the problem doesnt occur.

But all the extras of Notes 8 (integrated sametime, UI are not available (I did not spend time trying to find out whether or not I could get to them)

Unfortunately, I could NOT open designer.

I am basically forced to use Notes7 client (running nlnotes.exe)so I can use right mouse and Notes8 designer (for development). My Notes8 client is set to run notes.exe.

I have to open Notes8 designer first before opening my Notes7 client.

Subject: This is still a problem - anyone out there who can help?

I have created the files adviced by Doug but do not know how to attach them into this forum.

I already added 1GB memory and it hasnt helped.

I am now reduced to getting a loan machine, installing notes 8.5 GOLD in it to use 8.5

However, I would like to find out or correct why 8.5 doesnt work on my machine. What setting does it not like. What is causing 8.5 to act like this on my machine given the machine is installed with the IBM image and my co-developers do not have this problem
