Notes 8.5 corrupting user's workspace

Hi,

I have several hundred users running an application on Notes 8.5 (on Win Xp pro). The application includes a private desktop view as the default view.

When the users switch the machine to standby with the application open Notes corrupts the users workspace. Next time the user attempts to access the application they receive a Notes 8.5 error message and Notes terminates.

There is a simple work around, delete desktop8.ndk and Notes re-creates a new version. I have also advised the users to ensure the client has been closed down before shutting down/ switching to standby. The log files will be sent to IBM for diagnosis.

Just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem and may know the cause?

Thanks

Subject: Notes 8.5 & Standby.

I haven’t seen exactly the same problem as you describe, but a while back I remember seeing Notes 8.5 get in a muddle after a Windows PC goes into Standby . . . it looked as if some open databases were randomly being corrupted; I never got to the bottom of it, as I dodged the issue by advising folks to close Notes 8.5 before going to Standby.

Interstingly, I am now using R8.5.1 FP1 and have been testing putting my laptop to sleep and the end of each day with Notes still running; I have not seen any problems after doing this for months.

Subject: IBM have confrmed an issue with 8.5 and how it deals with desktop8.ndk

Thanks James.

IBM have confirmed that there is an issue with how 8.5 client is dealing with the desktop8 file when it crashes. I spoke to IBM last week and they could not give me much more detail, other than this issue will be fixed in the next lotus notes client 8.5.2 release available in Quarter 3 this year.
