Notes 8.5 client wants a diskette inserted at startup.... (ndyncfg.exe)

At every startup of the 8.5 client I get an error message approx. 20 seconds after the client displays the desktop. It seems like the dynamic configuration wants a diskette in A: for some reason… Didn’t see this with 8.0, 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 …

“There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:”

If I just put in any diskette and select “try again”, the client is happy and the status message “Notes configuration has been refreshed” appears.

This is after a “warm start” of the client. When I start the PC in the morning, I get another more cryptical message (which I will paset in here tomorrow…) for the same reason.

Subject: Possibly a Java issue?

I saw this on an app developed many years ago under Java. It just wouldn’t run without that prompt or a floppy in the drive. It wasn’t my code and the floppy disk stayed in that system (a server) for years just to handle the automatic startup of the app.

I know this may be a red herring but hey, at least I’ve seen it before.

Subject: We have never seen this - can you please provide some additional information…

Are you upgrading? If yes, from which version ?Were current 8.5 install or installation upgrading from - originally installed from media or other drive?

Which 8.5 client are you installing - Notes or AllClients?

What is your operating system?

Subject: Error message - when starting client first time in the morning

When starting the client in the morning, the error message is more cryptical. The popup window has the title “Windows - No Disk” and the message is “Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c”. It gives the options to “Cancel, Try again or Continue”. If I try to cancel, the error pops up again. If I put in any diskette into the A: and select “Try again”, the status message “Notes configuration has been refreshed” appears…

Subject: When starting without eclipse, the diskette drive is still accessed briefly

I tried starting nlnotes.exe directly and then I don’t get any error message, but still I can see that the diskette drive is accessed prior to the message “Notes configuration settings have been refreshed” appears.

Subject: Could you search notes.ini for ‘a:’

Subject: Done it and there isn’t any reference to my diskette drive in Notes.ini

The only “A:” in my notes.ini file is found in this row

PoliciesLocalViewModTime=C125754A:0027A831

So nothing really pointing to my diskette drive there…

Subject: Notes Client Problem

A file missing on the installation ?

Subject: More info

My OS is Win XP SP3. And this is the full International English client with designer and admin. I have upgraded from 8.0 → 8.0.1 → 8.0.2 and then to 8.5. However, due to this issue http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd85forum.nsf/7756aedc25e6d81285256324005ac76c/02be915296f7819e85257545007a389b?OpenDocument I had to uninstall 8.5, remove Notes.ini and reinstall (keeping my data except creating a new notes.ini via the setup).

Subject: When unchecking the preference “Check subscriptions” the problem disappears

Strangely, the problem disappears if I deselect the “Check subscriptions” option in Preferences…

/Kenneth

Subject: Tried all your suggestions, to no avail

A few days ago I had the same message, NDYNCFG was asking me to put a disk in drive D:I tried what was suggested, but still the message pops up every now and then. I cannot find any reference to D: in any ini file. As far as I know, there are no policies active.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

Sjef

Subject: No, the problem still appears sometimes…

Hi.

No, I still sometimes get prompted to insert the diskette. It seems like it is related to using the admin client, but I’m not sure.

Btw. removing the preference “Check subscriptions” did not help either…
