Notes 8.5.1 + Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello,

I have big problem with installation Notes 8.5.1 on my laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. It doesn’t work. “Preparing to install…” and closing installation program. Is there any way to install it ?

Is there any other version of Lotus Notes which will work with this operation system?

I have had no issues at all with 8.5.1 and Win7 Professional.

The best approach though is to not install Notes in the “Program Files” directory or “Program Files (86)” if you are running 64 bit.

When you launch the installer, rather than just double-clicking it, right-click it and select the option to “run as administrator.” I do this for all software installations and it seems to make the process much more reliable.

I’m running the 8.5.2 clients on W7HP 64-bit without issue. If you still have issues with 8.5.1, you may want to give 8.5.2 a try.

Also, be certain that you apply the latest FixPack to 8.5.1. W7 support began at FP1; FP5 was just released.

Thank’s for your advice. It works when it runs as administrator… Weird…

Glad to hear that worked for you. I have taken to installing all software using the right-click “run as administrator” option. As I understand it, this works because a typical user account, even the “owner” of a machine, in Vista/W7/W2008 doesn’t actually have “Administrator” privileges. I suspect that the Notes client is trying to write files to a location that Windows is “protecting.”
