Notes 8.5.1 on Windows 7 - how is it going?

If you’re running the Notes 8.5.1 client on Windows 7… How is it going?

In your view, is it fully functional, as compared to XP and Vista?

Overall a positive experience?

Subject: Notes 851 not working for me on win 7

I have problems with constant “interactive services detection” windows popping up, Notes freezes asks whether it should send diagnostics - I tell it no and it freezes and I have to reboot Notes. At which points it is still trying to send diagnostics. I have to reboot Notes one or two more times and then it works.

Is Windows 7 supported on 851?

Subject: eh…ok.

My users and I have found it to be quite stable but the two big things that my users commonly complain about are known limitations…

  1. 64-bit platform support for Single Sign On

  2. Better support for the Win7 taskbar-- (1) you pin the Notes shortcut to the taskbar but a new icon spawn when you open it. (2) Nothing but the default right-click options (close window, etc)

Just fixing up those two items alone would go a long way towards improving the experience IMHO.

Subject: Notes on Win7 64

It’s ok. It restarts pretty quickly after each crash. I guess that’s a benefit.

Subject: Running Notes 8.5.1 on 64 Bit Win7. It’s OK, only minor bugs, but what about Windows Server 2008 R2 support?

As reported by others, Notes Single Logon is not working, but I prefer Notes Shared Login.Taskbar handling (pin to taskbar) is annoying, same for the new set defaults for programs feature.

As Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are sharing the same code base, I am wondering when IBM will support Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services and XenApp 6.0

We’re running 8.5.1 clients on 7x64 and XPx32. Relatively same function, performance and reliability on both which is good.

Our issues with it running on 7x64 are those mentioned by Gregg and John.

Subject: partitioned hd?

hi… those who are using win7 (32- and 64-bit), do you have partitioned hard drives? have you noticed whether an installation of notes 8.5.1 or 8.5 results to additional program files folder in the second hd partition? i used the installer from ibm on my win7 machine (has 2 partitions) and it created a 2nd program files folder in the 2nd partition - this contains just the pernames. thanks in advance for any inputs.

Subject: Agree with Greg and more

We need full support of Win 7 64 Bit, which means:

  1. Single sign-on

  2. Quickr connectors

  3. Fix the taskbar issues and add functionality there

  4. Made notes appear in this dialog:

And yes, this is different than the standard default apps dialog

agreed, overall it runs well, single sign on is needed
