Notes 8.0.1 Crash w/Grey Screen of Java Code

Need help solving these crashes please.

Notes 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 are crashing intermittently then presenting a large grey screen of what looks like some kind of Java code or debug dump. The first line reads “JVM terminated. Exit code=1” We haven’t been able to reproduce it, or determine what is causing it. Also we are getting another type of crash which we are sometimes able to reproduce. Open User’s Calendar \ Select Open Another Persons Calendar \ Navigate to a user and select. It start to work then crashes and presents a message that troubleshooting info is being sent to the helpdesk, or words to that effect. With a choice to cancel.

I warned our department that we shouldn’t upgrade to version X.0 of any software, they are always too unstable, we should have waited till an 8.1 at least, 8.5 would have been best.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Subject: Crashes

We’ve got exactly the same issue to the point where I’m unwilling to roll out 8.x at this time.

I haven’t given it priority because we’ve only got three people on R8 now.

Things that help.

  • Change your Anti-Virus to stop real-time scanning the Notes directories.

  • Consider using the BASIC clients. We’ve had no trouble with them at all.

  • Contact IBM Support directly - they’ll as for some dump files which will help.

  • Make sure that Ed Brill is aware that you’ve got issues with these clients (he’s proactive enough that he can establish priorities and contacts for you).

  • Do some Windows updates. My crashes (and my colleagues crashes) reduced significantly recently following a MS Update.

The second poster was correct, and if you contact support they will ask if there are any NSD files. They can be found in the “notesProgramDirectory/data/IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT”, and they are VERY useful in troubleshooting crashes. As far as your other crash goes, how reproducible is it? The first step is to narrow it down to specific actions under specific circumstances. Are all people’s mail files affected? Is the issue reproducible from multiple machines?
