Notes 6 Client doesn’t work under Windows XP, only runs when I execute it from Lotus Minder.

Your problem may not be lotus related but OS related … does the user trying to run the application have permission to run the application?

For example if Notes was installed by an administrator account, an account with lower permissions may not be able to run the applications due to permissions being set too high, especially if you are in a windows domain. Try loggin in as an administrator and seeing if that solves your problem, if it does, start looking at resetting the permissons …

We do not have this problem actually but we are strongly interested if the problem with XP still is a problem?Is it solved with the XP Professional?

Is it solved with correct access rights?

I still have this problem. I’ve got 6.01CF1 installed on windows XP Pro SP1. At first it worked (when I did not have many other programs installed), but now it does not work anymore (it only shows the splash screen en then nothing happens).

I’ve got the same OS on my laptop but less other software installed and that version still works. I assume some common DLL or file has been overwritten, but I cannot seem to find the problem.

We are doing the migration from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Prof. We got similar kind of problem when we tried to run Lotus Package on XP.

Simple Solution

In Windows XP… the default User didn’t have permissions to write files under Program files. So, Please install everything under c: lotus folder. this will solve the problem in one way of doing it.

If I recall correctly, IBM/Lotus said they would support XP Professional, but not XP Home. Could that be the difference?

Microsoft didn’t get disgustlingly rich by being entirely stupid.

They’ve said all along that won’t support XP Home for business applcations. So, business application vendors, including Lotus, have said that they can’t support their apps on an OS that Microsoft won’t fully support either.

Bottom line: if you find a bug in Unreal Tournament, and it’s caused by XP Home, then MS may fix it. But a business app like Lotus Notes? Forget it.

Of course, you can be sure that MS Office will be exceptions to the rule.

I have no problem running the Notes client under XP. I am running 6.0.1 full client (admin, design, client).

Have you run WinUpdate recently?

Sure it does.

Maybe the your desktop icons point to the wrong files (or to no files at all, if you did an upgrade from 6.0.1 to 6.0.1 CF)
