Notes 6 Client keeps email DB open?

In Notes 3x, 4.x, and 5.x I have always read my new email by using the “Scan Unread Mail” entry in the menu over the email icon on the lower right of the Notes Client window. I’d see new email, select “Scan Unread Mail”, press delete (or sometimes enter) for each email, and when there were no more it would say “Delete # messages in the Trash folder…” and I’d click “Yes”.

Now, if I follow the same procedure, when there are no more messages, it leaves them marked as delete, but doesn’t ask if they should be deleted. Worse yet, if I then exit Notes, they still don’t get deleted and still exist but are not marked for deletion when opening Notes the next time. If immediately after marking them for deleteion I open the mail database and refresh, they go away just fine.

I am running the 6.0.1 Notes Client, connecting to a 6.0.1 server on Solaris/SPARC. The problem may have started when I tried out the Notes 6 email template, and then converted back down to the iNotes5 template when I couldn’t deal with the “Outlookish” way it acted. I have tried, fixup, compact, and replace design, to no avail.

This may just be a change in behavior, but I would like to understand what Notes is doing before rolling it out to any other users. I apologize if this topic is not appropriate for this forum, but this is where people know how things work, not just what it looks like.

Thanks for any advice!
