Notes 6.5.x can't start up on W2K/Xp with windows users privilage

I’m running on:

-PDC Win 2003 Active Directory : Mixed Mode.

-Domino 6.5.1 IF1 installed on Win 2003 member server.

-Notes client 6.5.x only or

-Notes client 6.5.x admin,designer.

All desktop (w2k prof & Xp) have to join to windows domain. Notes 6.5.x will be installed on dekstops. When I logon to windows desktop with Admin privilege (Domain Admin Group and or Administrators Group) Notes client works properly but if normal windows users (domain users only without admin privilege)Notes client can not startup.

Click the notes icon will produce error message :

“You cannot use the Administration program while the Domino Server is running.Either shutdown the Domino server (but keep the file server running) or close the icon labeled ‘Lotus Notes’ instead”

That was a wrong error message because I don’t have any domino server on my PCs.

Anyone have the same experience?

Any help would be so appreciated.

Its down to the NTFS file system permissions on the notes program and data directories. A standard install of windows 2k or XP will have restrictive permissions for standard users in the path “c:\program files”, and as the normal instal path for the notes client is “c:\program files\lotus\notes”, this causes issues as the files need to be written to and modified each time the notes client runs.

To resolve the issue you can modify the NTFS permsissions to allow standard users to have read/write access to c:\program files\lotus\notes and subfolders.
