Notes 6.03 or Notes 6.5 (confused) which one?

Can anyone explain why there is a Notes 6.03 release and a Notes 6.5 release?

What are the major differences?

What are most people going with?

6.03 is an update to Release 6

6.5 is a complete new version (with new features)

Will they eventually dump 6 and go directly to the 6.5 builds?

From the LDD home page, there’s an “LDD Today” article. "New features in Notes/Domino 6.5"http://www.lotus.com/ldd

Notes 6 and 6.5 will continue to be updated. Just don’t expect new features in 6.

Subject: Notes 6.5 Webcast cleared it up for me

All my questions about the differences were cleared up for me in a recent Webcast on What’s new with Notes 6.5

Basically there are now 2 streams of releases. 6.0x and 6.5x.

6.0x (including 6.03) is bug fixes only, no new features.

6.5x is based on the same base codestream as 6.0x and thus includes all those bug fixes, plus the new features (mainly IM and Mail features) plus any bug fixes relating to those new features.

So there there are two paths: one is conservative and the other is leading edge.

Personally, I am rolling out the 6.5 client-only to a number of power users and then when 6.51 comes out will upgrade the server and the rest of the clients.

Does this mean there will be no smart upgrade path from 6.0.2CF1 to 6.5?

I experiemented by using Smart Upgrade to upgrade a user from 6.02CF1 to 6.5. It worked OK. I just used the same installation files that I use on CD to manually upgrade a user.

All SmartUpgrade does is give you a mechanism to auto-download and trigger an install package. You can run any full installer to upgrade (or downgrade) to any version.
