I just read that the 6.0.1 release does include an installer for OS X. I just had a couple questions:
Does it require an administrator to install it?
Where should the Data folder be kept? Under Win 2K/XP, it keeps the data folder in the Lotus/Notes folder. Should it be kept in the same place under OS X? Does this mean the user needs read/write access to the entire Notes folder?

I can’t tell you about 6.0.1 since it is not available for public DL (passport only so far). For 6.0, I could not find the proper way to install notes in a multi user MacOS X config.
So even if you had full RW access to the application folder, I could not get Names/Desktops and other .nsf files to be ‘per user’
If she was successfull, Benedict could write an article about that

It should work fine. BTW, this works similarly in windows (theory is the same but the details are different).
Create a “Template” (admin) user. Do a clean install of notes but do not set it up. Login as root, copy the data folder to System/Library/User Template/English.lproj/documents. Repropagate down the permissions for the documents folder (you can either do this in terminal or by Command-I 'ing the Documents folder.
Every time thereafter when you make a new user on that machine, they’ll get a new data folder. The first launch of notes will prompt you for the location of the Data directory since there’s no prefs file. You have to manually pick the data folder in the user’s documents folder.
You can do the same thing on a OSX server if you want users to store their data folder on the server

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the response. Two questions: our users will not be admin users, they will be regular users. Should I install the client as root, and make the copy to the regular user’s home directory, rather than creating a new admin account to install it? Will it work the same?
Second, when we’ve installed Notes 6.0 client on user’s machines, the setup/use works fine. The only problem is that many users lose their ability to spell-check because Notes seems to fluctuate on where it likes the Data folder. In your scenario, there would be a data folder in the Applications/Notes folder and a data folder in the user’s home directory documents folder. I am assuming that the client will only add to/make changes to the documents folder copy?
