Notes 4.6 to Notes 6.5 Migration (New Domain)

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade a company’s Notes from 4.6 to 6.5. However, they also would like to move to a new domain. I’m trying to convince them to keep the same domain, as an upgrade would be quicker, easier, and with less complications, and then move the company to a new /O at a later date as a seperate project.

I can’t seem to find much offical documentation on migrating to a new domain, but have however, found this IBM document on merging two domains, (IBM - United States) which I guess is fairly close. Can anyone suggest any pros/cons over upgrade/migrating, and possibly even a suggested basic migration plan.

Here’s a basic plan I had in mind:

  • Create new Domino 6.5 environment

  • Cross certify /NewDomain with /OldDomain

  • copy/paste person documents from /OldDomain to /NewDomain

  • copy mail files from /OldDomain to /NewDomain, and replicate between the two

  • Move all users to new certifier (/NewDomain)

  • Install Notes 6 clients pointing to new environment.

Does anyone know if there would be any issues with freetime lookups, calendering, encrypted mail, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Brett.

I have recently gone through this process & trust me the above doc link is no where near to the actual process.

We got new domain, new cert, new server names. Had issues with renaming, calendaring…all sorts of issues.

Make sure, you ask for enough time & let me know if you are looking some outside help. You can email me at pankaj_h@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Pankaj
