Not a valid database file error when configuring lotus notes

I am trying to configure lotus notes 7 on a users pc when i get the error message of “cannot find names.nsf file as does not exist, sys file is not a valid database file”.Any ideas as to what this means?

Is this a clean install, or changing an existing one? You can try removing (or temporarily renaming) notes.ini (usually in Program files\Lotus\Notes ) and re-starting the client, to go through the initial set-up wizard again. Failing that, I would remove the program (via Windows) and start afresh.

The message implies it cannot find the local copy of names.nsf, the Local Address Book, which is where Location documents (amongst others) are found. If this is not a clean install it is possible this database is not accessible to the new user, or has been deleted manually, perhaps?

Cheers,
