Non English Lang User Interface and Spell Check

We have a strange issue with the Italian 6.0 Client.

Installed as single-user install.

Italian Dictionary selected as main dictionary, but if we have UserInterface=it in the notes.ini (to display the menus in Italian) we receive an “error with the main dictionary.” when starting the spell check. Spell check then fails.

We have the following included in the notes.ini file on the clients.

Spell_Lang=1040

Spell_dir=“notes data directory”

Spell_DLL=ltspln50.dll

Strange part - as soon as the UserInterface=it ini variable is removed, the menus are displayed in English, but the spell check works in Italian!

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jason.

have you installed notes as a MUI install? If not then you need to:

  1. install english version of notes

  2. install italian version of notes into the same directory as the english version

(repeat step 2 for all other lang packs)

NOTE: The version of notes must be exactly the same

this creates a directory called MUI under the application and application data directiories that contains a sub directory IT that contains a complete application and application data directories.

then the userinterface parameter will work - this is the same as the MUI lang packs for XP.

I find it strange that there is not a single bit of documentation from Lotus on this feature, other than a reference in a QMR for fixing a problem with smartupdate

Hi Barry,

Notes is installed as a single user (only for me) option.

We have the MUI directories - the UserInterface option does work, but when this is activated, the spelling checker for Italian does not.

If we take out the UserInterface=it from the notes.ini (so the Menus etc are in English), the Italian spell check then works! It’s this part that I’m having the problem with.

If it makes a difference, the clients were upgraded from 465 Italian.

Thanks
