We have a private website. Users register with our site by creating an account which in turn creates a person document in a Domino names.nsf. These users are not registered/certified Notes users. They are just person documents in a names.nsf. Each user’s username is the concatenation of thier first name, middle initial, and last name. For example, John A Doe’s username is “John A Doe”.
The users are not in a hierarchal format under an organziation meaning if I open the names.nsf and look at the view People by Organization, I will just get a list of users categorized under “(other)”.
This has worked just fine for us, but now we are using the the LDAP interface to look up users in our Domino directory. This has caused us issues because since our users are not in a hierarchal format the LDAP tree is flat. There’s no base DN to start searching for our users. To add a hierarchal structure to our users we’ve done the following:
- Added another username that contains the organization. For exmaple if the organization is ACME, then “John A Doe/ACME”. Now, the User name field in the person document would have the values:
John A Doe/ACME
John A Doe
- Added via Lotus Script the value “ACME” for the attribute “o”.
These two things seems to then translate through the LDAP into what we want. All our users under the base or root DN of “ACME”.
QUESTION:
I’ve added a new hierarchal name value to user name field of each Person doc (again non-registered users). All my existing databases still use the second (and orignal) user name value. For example an ACL refers to John A Doe and not John A Doe/ACME. It seems to correctly authorize users. Is this a problem even though the hierarchal name is listed first in the user name field of the person doc?
FYI - Our Domino server’s server document’s Internet authentication is set to “More name variations with lower security”
Most of my databases do not refer to a user directly but to a group that contains their non-hierarchal name (e.g., John A Doe).
Does anyone else have a domino server with users like this or is it just us?
