I’ve encountered a problem with Lotus Notes 8.5 Client in non-basic mode:On a computer logged into NT4 domain with redirected folder LocalAppData from %PROFILENAME% onto %HOMESHARE% it is impossible to run client. Configuration wizard starts up and completes without any error. There is even an icon in tray that shows unread mail. There is also nlnotes.exe process running but unfortunately, no window.
Hint: when I tried to run ‘nsd.exe -kill’ from data folder I’ve received:
“Fatal(0): You must run this tool from the Notes data directory or directory containing notes.ini”
Basic client works fine…
Do anyone happen to know where the problem might be?

You get this error messages because the notes client is installed for Multi users. When we get this warning or Notes not starting, the best way is to remove the Worksplace folder from the user notes directory.
You can also run the NSD -Kill process from the c$\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Setting\Application\Lotus Notes\Data…
Once you do that, Notes should work fine.
Any issues let me know…

Hmm… the thing is that there is no “workspace” in my data folder.

Then,
Check C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data,
if you have a lotus notes folder here delete, or rename it…

no such folder. ends up on Application Data.I still think this might be a problem caused by NT4 domain and the implemetation of folder redirection.
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\ is redirected on a samba share which is set to be simultaneously home folder for any user.
I’ve noticed that after starting up Notes client an additional folder is created in c:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\ which is named just like this samba home share (folder tree beginning form the samba server hostname)
I’ve also tried to start the Notes client pointing to my notes.ini file. In this case this strange folder is being created directly in %HOMESHARE%
I’ve done a print screen of this “fabulous” folder tree in here:

If it’s unclear because of folder polish names I may rename it on English equivalents.
