I have some users that are complaining that when they add a user in the TO: field of a received message to their contacts in their Personal Address Book (PAB), that they do not receive an error message that the entry is already there, for cases where they have already added this person to their PAB, but forgot.
The result is that they get duplicate entries in their PAB, and when they do type-ahead to address messages to that user, there is some confusion.
Has anybody else had this complaint? Any resulting solutions?

David, maybe I am missing a particular requirement your users might have, but generally copying person records to the PAB is not best practice from my point of view (although there is a provision in the address dialog). Did you consider rolling out a directory catalog instead ? That would give your users all persons locally and would avoid the duplicate entries problem. Apart from the fact that PAB entries are not automatically synched with the server directory which might lead to additional issues in case of renames etc.

same version here and after adding a user to my PNAB using the “Add sender to address book” feature I try a second time and in the add user dialog it tells me a duplicate was found and gives me 2 options to choose from: Skip or Update. Not sure why yours wouldn’t do this check.

I will have to do some further testing to see why. I would have thought that I would get the same result that you get, an error message stating that the entry already exists.
Typically, what is happening is that the end user clicks on the To: and Cc: field and selects the names that they want to add.
Usually, they are remote users with external email addresses (that’s why they want to add to the PAB).
Thanks for your response.

by simply clicking (right click) on the To or CC field I do not see an option to add to address book. The way I do it is to select an e-mail FROM the person I want to add then go to Tools > Add Sender to Address Book
