New SameTime Server Community 'grayed out'

I’ve just installed 8.5 Beta and noticed that SameTime is a bit more “integrated” into the Notes Client, to the point of really not being able to make it not noticeable. So, I figured maybe it’s time to start using it instead of using the stand alone ST Connect Client. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to add new server communities as the option is ‘grayed out’ when I choose ‘File>New>’. Is this not available because it’s a Beta version or is there an issue?

Subject: Solution

I’ve found a solution, but it needs to be done via xml configuration files. I still cannot activate the button.

here’s the workaround: Goto C:\Notes\Data\workspace.metadata.plugins\com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.community.sametime

and open the file community-config.xml in a texteditor.

Then copy all within the tag below and just change the id

and you’re done

This needs to be done while Notes is shutdown…

Subject: Looks like I’ve found my own answer…

Sometimes just continuing down the rabbit hole will result in the answer you seek…

I decided to continue to just log into my main community. Once logged in, the ‘File>New>SameTime Server Community’ option was available!

At least it’s logged on here for future passers-by!

Subject: that doesn’t solve it for me

Loggin in doesn’t help.Any other suggestions? Both my 8.5 mac and win clients report the same, grayed out file - new -sametime server community

Subject: Samehere

I posted @ the LS forum as well. Not sure what’s going on and why. It should just be enabled!

Subject: No multiple ST communities

I’ve got the same issue. I cannot add another sametime community in Notes 8.5Is there any ini-Setting I should enable?

Subject: Use alternatives?

I had the same issue. (I tried to add the Lotus Greenhouse SameTime-Community.) IBM Ireland (2nd level support) had no ad-hoc solution for that problem. Maybe there’s a policy on the SameTime-Server, that tells the client, to only allow one ST-Community?I solved the problem with pidgin (www.pidgin.im); It’s a free instant messaging client which supports the sametime-protocol and multiple communities.

Greets,

Subject: Setting of ST Server

Are you sure, that value of “Allow all Sametime Connect features to be used with integrated clients” in Default Policy setting in Administration of Sametime server is true?

This section is to use when the Sametime Connect client is enabled and licensed to work with another product’s client.

After that, the item “New Sametime Server Community” was enabled. In ST Server 8.0.2 this option is disabled by default.
