I’m thinking of adding this to the OpenNFT as a project. Before I do I want to make sure there will be enough interest to give the project some life. My employer, CAS Severn, Inc. thinks it’s a good idea.

I´ve developed a spelling checker for use in a Domino environment. Existing spelling checkers wouldn´t allow us the control the client needed and being a Domino developer I took on the project as an interesting exercise. Over the last couple of years its continued to improve and we´re thinking of releasing the system on OpenNTF.org. Before I go through creating project I figured I´d see if there would be some interest.
I guess the first question is why would you want to do this when there are tons of web based spelling checkers currently available, including the ones built into web browsers. Well, the first point is easy control of the vocabulary. In some environments (such as medial institutions) its very important that the works are spelled correctly when it comes to prescribed medications. You also want to control who can add or remove words from the vocabulary. You don´t want to have every client PC to have their own unique vocabulary and have possible incorrect words to be added “because that was the easiest button to press”.

I suggest floating the idea on openntf.org, where the people who would be interested in helping are more likely to hang out and where your suggestion will not be lost in a vast crowd of posts asking how to find the difference between two dates. You can propose a project and see who signs on to help.

Thanks Andre. I’ve posted it there first in the area they suggest but no one has shown interest as of yet. I thought I’d bring it to more attention by posting it here and perhaps someone here would then go there to show the interest.
