New Mail notification does not work?

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me.

I have installed Notes 8.0.2 on 12 PCS. With default settings there is no new mail notification, i.e. no Sound and no Icon in system tray even though these are selected (by default) in “Preferences-Mail-Sending and Receiving”.

On 2 PCs I enabled the Pop up option, that doesn’t seem to work either. The Alarm function for the Calendar works and plays a sound, so the System Speakers definitely work.

I was told that the sound and icon were broke in versions previous to 8 but that it worked in 8.0.1 is this correct? Surely IBM cant of broken the sound and icon in a minor update.

I’ve got Notes 8.0.2 installed, and also have an issue with the new mail notification in the system tray. The notification actually does appear, but only for an instant, before it disappears. Pervious versions of Notes would leave the notification in the system tray until the mailfile was opened.

I’ve logged a PMR with IBM for this issue.

Would you be kind enough to post IBM’s response to your PMR when you get it. The same issue has arisen during our pilot of 8.0.1

IBM have acknowledged the problem and reported this issue under a Software Problem Report, and escalated to their development team.

It’s possible they may release a hotfix, but probably more likely will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks for the update Neil, not exactly what I wanted to hear as ive just rolled out Notes 8.0.2 to around 40 PC’s but atleast IBM have acknowleged a problem.

Again Thanks Neil for replying, I hope IBM release a HotFix for this issue at some point

Does a sound play at all when you get a new message? Also how quickly does the icon appear and dissappear? Have you have any response from IBM yet?

Still working with IBM to try and find out the cause of the issue. Will post when I have the resolution (if any).

In answer to questions, sound does play when I receive a new mail (if I have it turned on). Also, the icon in the system tray remains for less than a second.

… this has changed (I think) in R8 so it works little bit differently then used to, try this test open you inbox view then open and stay in calendar view, ask someone to email you. As long you staying in calendar or To Do you will see mail icon in system tray. If you switch to inbox mail icon will be gone. I guess IBM assums that if you have open and looking at Inbox you do not need to have indication about new email in system tray. This have definitelly changed from past.we have people complaining about this as well, please post IBM response on this

Subject: Tested the suggestion but i still have no icon

Your suggestion made sense and I hoped it would have such a simple fix like leaving Notes on the calander window, but alas no such luck, I waited 45 mins to get an email sent from here coz I forgot my password :o) there was still no sound, icon or popup.

Thanks for your suggestion and your time!

Has anyone heard anything back from IBM about this yet?

Subject: 8.0.2 Client is damaged goods

Use 8.0.2 client at your own peril or use 8.0.1 till 8.0.3 is out. We’ve had no issues after downgrading to 8.0.1.

8.0.2 server is fine.
