When a new mail arrived, i do see the icon in the system tray that shows it has arrived and i also hear the sound that indicates a new mail has arrived. But my inbox does not refresh automatically. This happens only in 8.5. I had notes 8.0.1 before and didnt have this issue.

Definitely check out that technote. This is a known issue in 8.5 Standard, I would contact support just to get a customer report filed against the SPR.
