Netbook

Hi

Just wondering if it would be possible to run domino 8.5 on a netbook? I just want it for study purposes so I’d need the client and server installed. Does anyone know if a netbook would be capable of this? And if so what kind of RAM or Hard drive I’d need?

Thanks

Jane

Subject: Yes, try any virtual machine

For tests, think about any virtual machine (ie. Virtualbox, VMWare 1.5).

I have one old physical server with windows 2003 + LD 7.0.4 with 256MB ram and aprx. 80 active users

For test 512MB RAM is enough.

Subject: client, yes, server, maybe

I’ve run the client (even Admin and Dev client) on my Acer Aspire netbook. It’s my “couch machine”. I wouldn’t try the server, because I know my machine doesn’t meet specs, since it runs WindowsXP.

A lot of netbooks are just laptops with a small screen and small keyboard. Don’t get caught up on the format.

Read the system requirements for whatever version of Domino/Notes you’re installing. They’re in the release notes. Then read the specs on the machine. Those will provide your answer.

Subject: good testing…

If you’re just testing for look, feel, or a general idea of somethign working, this might work.

But if you’re testing to see how an application will perform in your employer/customer’s environment then you’d be well advised to set up a server and client that are exactly what they have in their environment. And similar bandwidth. You’d be surprised at the usability differences these kinds of things can make.

Subject: For testing, sure

As long as the netbook is running XP - Domino will install and run but will not on Windows 7. I do it for demo purposes. Inside 1 VM, I can run 2 servers and the Client - but you really have to stop most other processes. Netbook has 2 G of RAM - you get the experience you would expect given the specs, but just to practice for exams or such, it does fine
