Need some assistance... re: combobox & textarea

I am at loss… just spinning wheels. I created a blank form with RT lite field and an editable text (textarea) field -w- HTML attributes, multiple values, etc. There was no problem inheriting data from the RT Lite field. e.g. RT field = “test data” and editable text field formula = name of RT field. The issue is when I add the combobox -w- refresh fields, etc. Goal… user selects (as required) from combobox then the editable text fields should populate based on combobox selection. At the moment, I am getting blank fields. Here is the formula being used for the combobox (prodvalues):

items := @DbColumn(“”:“NoCache”; “”:“prods/prodprofiles.nsf”;“Lookup”;1);

“Select One As Required”:items

Here is the formula being used as the “default value” for the field(s).

@If(ProdValues = “Select One As Required”; “”; ProdValues != “Select One As Required”; @DbLookup(“”:“NoCache”;“”:“prods/prodprofiles.nsf”;“Lookup”; ProdValues; “Overview”); @DbLookup(“”:“NoCache”;“”:“prods/prodprofiles.nsf”;“Lookup”; ProdValues; “Overview”))

note: I have tried ""for the final @DbLookup value and the formula (as above). Any problems with this? Thanks in advance team…

I created other versions of the field (using same @Dblookup)… the computed text field works so formula is fine. It is just the editable versions that do not. Maybe I am missing something here… can I even have an editable text field (textarea) that pulls in data using @DbLookup? Goal… data is pulled in and possible edited.

update: had a solution (or so I thought). Create a hidden tmpOverview field that is text-computed then have the real field as “tmpOverbiew” (no quotes of course). Still blank…

One thing that comes to mind is if you have an editable text field and a default formula like this, it will only run the default formula when you create a new document. Your best bet here is to use the onChange event of the combo box to run code that populates the other fields (onChange works with LS in client and javascript on the web).

You could also create a button on the form that will run the formulae and populate the fields as needed.

Great point… thanks Joel! I’m not the JS wiz but have called hidden buttons (formulas) using …update.click to call button. I’m assuming that JS does not have an equivalent of @DbLookup, etc… I’ll try the onChange + standard button. Many thanks…

Well, you know me, and the simple route is an AJAX call to an agent that does the lookup… however, there IS a way to do it with javascript and no agent. Still uses the xhttp objects and make sure you read all the cross-browswer stuff if this is relevant (at the bottom):

DBLOOKUP/DBCOLUMN in JS

Wow… thanks Joel! Always top-notch answers! I was being simple-minded… use the onChange event to call document[0].updateitem.click()… references a hidden button -w- @SetField…

I’ll check link… maybe the above (and/or yours) overcomes the need for a textarea. The reason I changed was because RT lite fields only compute once. I’m asuming that an @SetField <etc…> doesn’t count. Testing now…
