I am getting really frustrated. I have spent over 12 monthing creating and selling a notes based solution and over your standard windows .net and I am looking like a fool right now.
All I want to do is something that EVERY OTHER SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD allow you to do. I want to print multiple pages per sheet. I see that there is an option in Document Style Tab, but it is greyed out. I did some searching and found out that you can ONLY print Address Book and ONLY local to actually print multiple pages per sheet…
Now I maybe wrong, but NOTE/DOMINO has never been a stand alone local applications. They are server based.
HELLO IBM>…
Look forward to advise / direction

My first advice would be: register yourself under a REAL name.
My second advice would be: if you don’t like Notes switch to another system.

Rob,
Thanks for your advice. My advice to you… if you have nothing to contribute… don’t post.

How about choosing: “Print continuously with one blank line between documents”
Subject: RE: ** Need Help >> Printing Multiple Docs Per Page **
Paul,
Compare the output you get when you do that with doing a Word print of a multi-page doc when you tell it to print > 1 page/sheet…these are two totally different kinds of outputs (and I gotta say, I like the Word version for some things waaaay better).

Hi Error,
Can you pipe the info to Adobe PDF, MS Word or another application right before printing, maybe on the backend? I think you would have to have a server copy of the software but I have done many things like that, where the end user never sees that the app is using other programs to accomplish wondrous things. Just a thought.

P.S. I support your anonymity - since you’re encountering a snag I see why you wouldn’t want your product or your name to appear in search results about the snag. Rock on.
Subject: USe the printer settings instead of the Notes print options
Probably under the printer preferences, your printer will have an option to fit x pages on a page.
This is probably why you can see it in other apps, even though they have not been coded for to print multiple pages on a sheet. It’s just a printer option. Not all printers support this, but most modern printers and their printer drivers offer this option. My printer calls it the N-Up option, as can be seen here. I got to this option by selecting the Settings button in the Print dialog of Notes.
Another of my printers has it under Page Layout.
Subject: Sweet!
Thank you for posting that - since many MS Office programs contain this option in the program settings, I never thought to check the printer control stuff. Interestingly, on our Konica printers, using the ‘N-Up’ option also handles landscape vs portrait; you don’t get a choice.

Carl, I am bookmarking your answer for future reference! AWESOME! I think you may have solved Error Unknown’s problem too. Good job!

Printing is always local – a server doesn’t have any good reason to print unless you’re running, say, an invoicing application (for which Domino is ill-suited). If the Documents Style tab is visible, it’s available – the grey text simply indicates that you are currently viewing a different tab. Your assertion that you can only do this from the address book is absolute nonsense. You will probably need to create an alternate form for printing multi-ups, though.
Subject: Hold on, guys, this is an issue
I’ve never tried this before so I took a look. I select docs in a view and do ‘file - print’. Flip to the Style tab and, by default, each doc on a page is selected. The last option is ‘multiple docs on each page’ and it is grayed out.
Hit the ? help icon and get:
“Print multiple documents on each page”
Print each document after the previous one on the same page
Note This option is available only for local databases whose design includes form(s) with the “Include in print” option selected. It’s useful for printing labels from your Personal Address Book. If you are a roaming user, open the local replica of your address book to use this option.
The OP’s contention appears to be correct - you can’t generate a multiple docs to one page unless the db is local which renders this option useless for a typical server based app.
I’m not sure how you’d create an alternative form that combines the docs selected into per printed page unless you were doing some kind of hard core RT on-the-fly formatting stuff which seems like a lot of work and likely to be error prone.
I think what you describe would be to design a compressed form layout and tell Notes to print docs with no line between. This gives you the effect of printing more than one doc on a page but is a real hack if what you want is to see a page with ‘mini’ pages printed out. Do this in Word and you’ll see the difference.
To EU…welcome to Notes - it’s NOT a word processor and there are things you can do in many other apps that you just can’t do in Notes. On the other hand, there are a whole bunca things you can do with Notes that you can’t do with any other platform. Each design environment has limitations. There’s probably a clever way to do what you want to do or there may be 3rd party apps that might work (Midas, Integra, others??).

Try looking in Designer Help
Subject: RE: ** Need Help >> Printing Multiple Docs Per Page **
For info, the method used for the Address Book is called ‘Contact Printing’ and there’s a document about it in Designer Help.
I had a quick look and the option IS greyed out if you try to print from a server-based replica of the Local Address Book.
