Need Debian Support

Dear all,

I am going to setup three (3) Lotus Domino Servers on Debian running on virtual machines (VMWare). Each server will have around 3-5 clients.

Can anyone define the suggested Debian version and Lotus Domino version?

I truly believe that Debian should be included in the list of supported linux systems for Domino servers (this addresses the IBM Linux development team).

Thanks to all,

Panayiotis Fafakos.

Subject: You will need Debian Lenny

Lenny is not officially stable yet (Domino needs some updated libraries that are not available in Etch). I am running 8.5 on 2 test servers, no OS related problems so far.Debian is not supported but I have been using it for a few years now. Works quite well for me.

It is not easy for a proprietary vendor to support Debian as many Debian people do not care much about requirements of closed source software.

Subject: Can I use version 8 with Lenny?

I have already tried with Debian Etch but I cannot get through setup of Lotus 8.0.1 (C18XSEN).

I issue the command

java -jar setup.jar -console

inside the /domino/linux/tools folder

and although I have setup

update-alternatives

with IBMJava2-142 JRE & SDK

exported JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/java

which is a link to /etc/alternatives/JAVA_HOME

which points to /opt/IBMJava2-142

could not get past the installation bar more

than 5% (two bars that is).

The error message I get is “JVM not found” !!!

I really do not know how this can be.

I can switch to lenny, but could I have Lotus 8.0.1 or should I try 8.5 which is still in beta?

Thank you for your response,

Panos.

I would definitely recommend 8.5 Beta2. It seems to be more stable than 8.01 and much faster, too. No experience with Lenny, though. I have installed it on Ubuntu Hardy and Mint without any serious problems.
