NDR domain name

When a users sends an internal email (ie using the address TEST ), and that recipient is not listed in the Domino directory an NDR is returned to sender, for example:

User TEST (TEST@acme.com) not listed in Domino Directory

My question is where is the domain name (@acme.com) part of the returned address picked up from? (it was not in the initial email)

I would have thought it would be the ‘Local primary Internet domain’ in the Global Domain document, but this is not the case.

Anyone got an idea, thanks

You can reference the following technote for more details: Lotus Software Knowledge Base Document

Title: How is a ‘From’ or ‘Reply to’ Internet address formed in Notes and Domino?
Doc #: 1098584

And yes, the Internet domain name is built from the Local Primary Internet Domain name field in the Global Domain document.

thanks for the link, the issue is the Internet domain returned does not match the domain set in the Local Primary Internet Domain name field in the Global Domain document.

Can you tell me if the domain that is listed is the one for the DNS? There is a SPR for a similar issue; ie DFR for nonexistant user appends DNS suffix to username that was closed with the following workaround → Choose option not to send to address when username not located in Domino directory or use internet address format when addressing email.

Subject: NDR - DNS

Yes the domain does match the DNS, thanks. With regard to the work arounds you mention, I am not sure where either setting is, could you point me in the right direction.

The workaround was a little vague but essentially you would just have to skip the name or use the internet address of the person. Hope that helps!
