ND6 and ND6.5 installed on the same computer?

I’ve had lots of trouble installing ND6 and ND6.5 on the same computer. I had it working once but ND6 kept crashing so I reinstalled it. The next time I looked at ND6.5 all the executables had been removed!

Trying to reinstall 6.5 I’m seeing the same thing I’ve seen three or four times before - the Change buttons to point the install to different directories are greyed out so I have no choice but to install over ND6. These buttons sometimes work but mostly they fail.

Any ideas?

I have 6.0.3 and 6.5 installed on the same machine. They are installed in separate directories and I (usually) do not run them at the same time.

Installing them was a bit difficult.

I installed 6.0.3 to (for example) c:\lotus\notes, and made sure it was working.

Then I copied it to c:\lotus\notes6 and modified the Notes.ini on the “new” folder and updated all the pointers to c:\lotus\notes.

Once I was sure that I had two completely separate installations I installed 6.5 and let it pick where it wanted to go (c:\lotus\notes).

I do have some issues with 6.5 NSD’ing - particularly when the admin client is up and I do a manual replication from Notes.

I haven’t tried installing and then moving ND6. Aren’t there settings in the registry that would still point to the original directories?

And yes, even when I got this working I was getting NSDs after installing ND6.5, but in ND6! This was why I did the ND6 reinstallation, the one that somehow deleted the 6.5 exes.

Yes, there are registry entries - but these are really not needed to run.Of course we are talking about a single user (NOT multi-user) install here.

That is why I move it - then change everything to make sure it works.

The “copy” is then my 6.0.3 version - and the R6.5 installs over the original location, which is referenced in the registry.

Example:

  • Install originally in c:\lotus\notes.

  • copy to c:\lotus\notes6

  • make “notes6” location work - you now have 2 identical versions in two locations.

  • install R6.5 which is installed into c:\lotus\notes

  • now there are working versions or R6.0.3 and R6.5

Alternately you can remove the registry entries - but there are a lot of them.

Thanks. I’ll give this a shot!
