Mysterious Locked Document

We have a document that gives the “The document is already locked by ” error when trying to edit it. The user does not currently have the document open, in fact I have had her close all tabs and re-start her Notes client.

The database does not have document locking enabled.

Every trick I could find to unlock the document doesn’t work (I’m not saying that I’ve tried everything, just that everything I’ve tried hasn’t worked).

Any suggestions?

try this:

turn on document locking on the database

have someone with manager access to the database open a view in the db. right click on the locked document.

you should see the option ‘unlock document’ listed - click it

turn off document locking. that should work

note that a document is ‘locked’ by having the fields $Writers and $WritersDate present - if they are there, Notes will treat the document as locked. if the above technique does not work, any other technique to delete those fields will unlock it.
