Hi All,I’m new to R851 and i submitted many posts here…none of them were answered…
Subject: this is an answer…
This is a forum, not a helpdesk. IBM aren’t active here, if that’s what you’re thinking. It depends on someone giving their time to answer your question if they understand and can answer it
Had a look at your last post, and it’s about xPages.
The problem with this is that xPages are new, so there aren’t so many people out there that know how they work. I’ve also asked a question about xPages recently and not got an answer yet.
Have you checked the other xPages resources on the web? For example the lotus wiki.
I do think though that it would be good for IBM to provide more info on xPages, even to the extent that they could provide a forum/helpdesk for answering xPage queries. This is a new technology and if no-one can learn it because there’s no-one that can answer their questions it just won’t get used as much. It’s in IBM’s interests to get people using them IMHO
Subject: …some unofficial feedback from an IBMer…
Like what Dan has said, this is a forum and not a help desk. It’s a facility for the Lotus community to use, share queries and solutions. Some IBMers, like myself, do take part in this forum but it’s usually in our spare time. I’m particularly interested in the XPages issues raised here. If valid I feed them back to development to get them addressed. If you have a XPages issue, pop me a mail ( paul_hannan@ie.ibm.com ) and I’ll try to respond as best I can.
There are many XPages ‘how to’ queries in this forum and some rightly point to the lack of documentation. This is a high priority for us to address. XPages is a fantastic product and we want people to use it.
In the meantime, there are resources to help XPages users.
Along with the Designer Help take a look at the Domino Designer Wiki - http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ddwiki.nsf ;
Another is the XPages Blog - http://xpagesblog.com/ - Check out the resources page here along with the content submitted by XPages Xperts;
A PlanetLotus search is also helpful - PLANET LOTUS.org (Search) - this will keep you up-to-date with what a lot of the blogs are saying about XPages;
OpenNTF - http://openntf.org/Internal/home.nsf - is a great place to xpages samples and application;
IQJam (http://www.iqjam.net) is new resource for questions and answers on Lotus technology
Hope this helps.

The response is appreciated Paul - I do believe that IBM could do a bit more in terms of providing help for xPages, and I’m not talking about improving the help (although this is sorely needed).
For example my last query here about xPages was a ‘can this be done’ type query. It’s quite likely not going to be answered because there may be no one that knows for certain, outside of the IBMers that developed the product in the first place.
While I do intend to spend some time learning xPages at some point, work pressures don’t always allow this - but if I had a specific app to develop which I knew was possible and had some guidance on this would be a great start into xPages. I’m certain I’m not the only one in this situation.
A simple way of doing this would be for IBM to officially answer some xPages queries here for a while, although not sure this would be possible as that would set a precedent I guess.
Not sure what the solution is of course, as an official IBM development helpdesk would be a huge undertaking (but very useful!) - to have that sort of resource available, even if it wasn’t free, would be interesting

I’ve not seen better than this, as a tutorial, anywhere on the web…
