Multiple SMTP Connection Document not working

This is the constellation:

There are Two Foreign SMTP Documents:

Internet Domain:

*.anywhere.com

Should be routed to Domain

SpecialInternet

-2-

Internet Domain:

.

Should be routed to Domain

TheInternet

Then there are two SMTP connection Documents:

Src- Server is the same: Server01/Org

-1-

Destination Server: SpecialServer

Destination Domain: SpecialInternet

SMTP MTA :

Routing Cost: 1

SMTP- Mail- Routing enabled

-2-

Destination Server: AnyServer

Destination Domain: TheInternet

SMTP MTA : firewall

Routing Cost: 1

SMTP- Mail- Routing enabled

This is what it should do (if you belief admin-help):

It should route mail to anywhere.com directly to the internet, any other mail should be delivered to the firewall.

Dont ask, why we do something like this, this is just an interims- solution because we have problems with the firewall delivering mail to special domains…

But it ALWAYS routes its mail to the firewall, even the mail to anywhere.com.

WHY ?

There is no Relay host configured in the Configuration document of the server…

Does anyone know ?

Is this a bug ?

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the exact same problem.

It always routes all internet mail, no matter what domain, to the server that is set to “.” Changing the mail routing cost has no effect. It is as if it completely ignores all domains other than .

This even happens on a server that is on its own NNN, and only has connection documents to the two servers set up for outbound SMTP.

Help! This is driving me nuts!

If ever someone has the same problem… I had it too… And here is the solution (at least it was for me).

There are Two Foreign SMTP Documents:

Internet Domain:

*.anywhere.com

Should be routed to Domain

SpecialInternet

  • Don’t use *.anywhere.com => anywhere.com is enough

  • Don’t enter more than one internet domain => Create a single Foreign SMTP document for each domain.

Internet Domain:

.

Should be routed to Domain

TheInternet

OK but only necessary if you wish to route all other internet domains through a specific ISP or smtp server.

Then there are two SMTP connection Documents:

Src- Server is the same: Server01/Org

-1-

Destination Server: SpecialServer

Destination Domain: SpecialInternet

SMTP MTA : e.g. <isp.smtp.com>

Routing Cost: 1

SMTP- Mail- Routing enabled

-2-

Destination Server: AnyServer

Destination Domain: TheInternet

SMTP MTA :

Routing Cost: 1

SMTP- Mail- Routing enabled

OK but you don’t need this see above

What happens when you set the routing cost for the connection to the firewall to 2 ?
