Multiple Server Tasks in Task Manager

Hi,

We have a Domino 8.5.1 FP1 server. We are in the process of implementing DAOS. Over the last day, we have noticed that when you enter a “Load Compact” console command, the compact does not activate. The console however is still responsive.

Upon further investigation we have found that there are 4 ncompact.exe processes running under Task manager but the Domino server does not indicate that any compact tasks are running. There are also 2 nupdall.exe processes running, again with no corresponding tasks in Domino.

We noticed this yesterday and restarted the Domino server out of hours and was able to run a couple of compacts but then the problem started again.

Anyone heard of this. We are not sure whether to end these processes via Task Manager in case it crashes the server.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven.

Subject: DAOS

Is DAOS in fact enabled? If not, you may have to run Compact -c -daos offline. Meaning when Domino is down.Additionally, is there a program document setup somewhere to run compact?

I’ve included a couple of public technotes that I found that may be related to your problem:

Subject: Thanks - but that’s not the issue

the mail files are already DAOS enabled. This problem is happening when issuing any console command i.e. fixup, updall, compact on any database (DAOS enabled or not). The task does not run in Domino but shows as running in the processes tab in task manager.

I think that maybe DAOS might be a red herring but thought I’d mention it.
