Multiple Notes Client on same machine

Currently using 7.0.2 client and would like to also have 6.5.5 client for client support. How can I have both copies on the same machine? From what I read and tried so far it appears that the OS (Windows XP), uninstalls the previous and uses the last installed client as the primary email client. Any way on how to make the OS not pick up a previous version of the client so that another copy can be installed? How can I make this work for a copy of Notes 8 Beta be installed on the same machine as well (6.5.5, 7.0.2, 8)? THXS!

Hi,

For R8 and R7 on the same machine. If you want to add R6, it will be the almost the same thing.

Notes 8 Beta and Notes 7.x coexistence

You can make a backup copy of your pre-Notes 8 Beta installation prior to installing Notes 8 Beta and then install or upgrade Lotus Notes 7.x to Lotus Notes 8.

If you need both Lotus Notes 8 Beta and 7.x on the same machine, be aware that this installation could have adverse effects on the operation of the 7.x client that was previously installed; for example, OLE/COM settings will point to the Lotus Notes 8 directory, default e-mail client settings, and so on. With that understanding, follow the steps below to install Lotus Notes 8 Beta on a machine that also has Lotus Notes 7.x installed:

Note: Use the Installing Lotus Notes 8 Beta release note as a guide.

Note: You must have local administrator privileges to complete this procedure. These instructions apply to single user installs only.

  1. Shut down the Notes client and all Notes-related tools, utilities and add-ins running on your computer.
  2. Rename the Notes 7.x directory. Notes 7.x is typically installed to \Program Files\Lotus\Notes on Windows. For example, you could rename the directory “Notes7.”
  3. Rename the entire Notes registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Lotus\Notes. For example, you can rename it HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Lotus\Notes7.
  4. Rename the entire Installer registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes\Installer. For example, you can rename it HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes\Installer7.
  5. Run the Notes 8 Beta install program setup.exe. Accept the default installation path (C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes). Then, select new locations for the program and data directories. For example, you can select \Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes and \Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data.
  6. When the installation program has finished, rename the 7.x directory back to the original directory name, for example, \Program Files\Lotus\Notes.
