Multiple Mail sources

I have a few users that have a need to maintain an additional email accounts through parent organizations that are accessible via POP3.

In Notes 8.5.1, I see that in the Preferences, I acn add mail accounts. I have setup a GMail account and enabled POP3. Problem is, I can get Outlook Express to connect and use that account, but I have no idea about Notes. The emails on the POP3 account show up now where.

I have enabled that account to be used in all locations. I have double checks ports and login info.

Also, once receiving email is working, how would one select the sender information between the two accounts (in house Notes/POP3).

I am on Domino 8.5, Notes Admin 8.5.1. My mail template is currently still dwa7. Templates will not be upgraded until I can get Notes 8.5 working in Citrix.

Thanks

Subject: Help to get Gmail on Notes

Hi Matt,

I’m trying to configure my Notes 8.5.1 to access my Gmail account through IMAP. But i could not do it successfully. I’m behind a proxy server. Will that be a problem?

Could you tell me the procedure to get it done?

Thanks.

Subject: Gmail through Proxy

As long as you have the proxy information correctly setup in your location document, it should not be a problem.

Google uses SSL and non standard ports. So when you add the account you have to ensure you select type IMAP SSL, not just IMAP, (which is what I failed to do on my POP setup.)

You will also need to change the port numbers under the advanced area. One last thing I had to do was to set the option “Accept SSL site certificates” to yes. Otherwise the SSL cert was rejected.

Subject: Not Working…

Hi Matt,It seems everything is right in my location document and the account document. But i receive the same error.

I followed the instructions given here,

http://ask-mark.com/2008/06/13/gmail-imap-and-lotus-notes-8/

Still no joy.

Subject: Proxy

It is very possible the proxy is not letting it through. If you administer it be sure that port 993 is enabled. If you do not administer it, talk with your IT/Network department.

Also, unless you need the features of IMAP (i.e. folder support), I would try POP instead.

Subject: POP too is not working

Hi Matt,

POP is also not working for me. I’ll check with my Network Admin.

Thanks.

Subject: Fixed receiving mail problem. Still need help sending

I fixed the problem receiving mail from an additional account. I had a dumb a** moment, and forgot to select SSL enabled POP, which is required by google.

As for sending, I still need to be able to send email as either my normal corporater name OR by my gmail account name. I know this can be done in outlook express.

I upgraded my mail template to 8.5 to see if that helped; alas it made no difference as far as I can see.

Any ideas?

In case if anyone is curious, we are venturing into a franchise opportunity in which all customer contact has to look like it is coming from the parent company, not through our company domains. Since this will be a part time position for our sales rep, I am wanting to save the hassle of utilizing 2 mail systems.

Subject: Found a work around

Great to hear that feature may be in a future update.

In the mean time I have found a work around and thought I would share it.

an Internet mail address is listed in each Location document. I have simply copied our Office location and altered the Internet mail address accourdingly. When the user selects the alternate location, any emails that leave the company are displayed as coming from that address.

All and all, I don’t think this is any more combersome than paying attention to sender field on each email you are sending, but I think the later takes less constent awareness.
