Is there any way for the 8.5.3 client to gracefully handle multiple e-mail accounts? For example, say I have a work e-mail and a personal e-mail account and I need to keep the 2 separate.
I can retrieve all e-mail into a single inbox. (That might actually be preferable). That’s not a problem. But I can’t get it to reply properly with the appropriate e-mail address that it was sent to.
My work-around is to have a separate Location for each e-mail account. In this case, there are also separate Inbox for each account. However, Reply’ing to e-mail is still a problem. If I forget to switch to the correct location, the e-mail will always send with the e-mail address from the current Location, regardless of which Inbox the original e-mail comes from.
Any tips? Suggestions? Surely this is a very common situation. Almost all e-mail clients out there (e.g. Thunderbird) can handle this nicely.
To truly have two separate accounts, I’d use two mailboxes. Otherwise, you’ll always run the risk of doing something in the wrong ID. If you want to avoid accidentally sending email from the wrong ID, then limit the rights of the (guest) ID to “reader” in the ACL.
Now, if you are a developer, you could use a single mailbox, and setup reader fields and limit rights to individual messages based on the recipient name.
I have setup multiple files for different locations. I’m not sure how to setup ACL differently for each of the accounts, the problem is that the location is different, but it is the SAME user (i.e. me!)
Even if I could, that’s still incredibly inconvenient. I would HAVE to switch locations everytime. And what happens if I forget to switch locations? Send fails. Will I get warning? Then I have to deal with it?
I tried to set up an agent in the outbox that scans for the “from” address and replaces it with the original intended recipient e-mail. No luck so far…
Surely there must be an easier way to do this. Every other e-mail application can handle it gracefully. (Yes, I know Notes is more than just e-mail, that’s why I love it. But if it has to do e-mail, it should at least do a reasonable job. Is there another e-mail app out there that doesn’t support multiple accounts?)
