I have a client that is planning to upgrade there notes servers and laptops to R6.54 but leave their desktop PCs at R5.08. The are running both web and client applications, some of witch are large 3rd party apps. I am of the opion that this is not a good plan. I need to hear input on this issue inorder to convince them to do a complete upgrade.

I may wind up being in the minority with my opinion here, but… I don’t agree with you, Tina, that it’s necessarily a bad thing to maintain the R5 clients on the desktop boxes.
If there are a large number of such boxes and/or those boxes aren’t capable of handling the somewhat heftier footprint that Notes 6.5.x has, then it may make more sense to leave the desktops as they are and upgrade them when the time comes for a new box. Unless the company’s got some code in their third-party apps that doesn’t play well with the R5 clients, there’s no urgent need to change a properly functioning workstation.
On the other hand, if you do have desktops with plenty of time on their life cycle, the wherewithall to handle the different hardware needs of the 6.5.x client, and there will be significant functionality degradation in those extra apps by not upgrading, then I’d use that as my case.

Yes I feel you are correct in your opinion. There is a year left on the contract for the current boxes even though they could very easily handle to upgrade. My concern is if one of the developers does any custom work to the app in R6.54 and the R5 users will get error messages for code that R5 does not recognize. Thank you for your input.
