Moving server ID and ini to different working Domino server...crashes server at part way into server load

We’ve got a key Domino server that is on its last legs.

So, we built a sister server, replicated all the databases, and then put the old ID and ini file on the new server…upon server start (with the old server’s ID and INI), the server crashes with an error message:

PANIC: LookupHandle: null handle

If we put the sister server’s original ID and INI back in place, the server runs fine.

We’ve even tried it with the working INI file, but just changing the reference to the different ID file name.

Tried putting a fresh copy of the Domino directory on the new server… still crashes.

We even scanned the registry and updated it to show the different server.

It alomst appears to be the ID file alone that causes the problem… which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense either.

The ONLY difference that I can detect at all, is that the new server, having been built from scratch, has the “Change Manager” running on it (the old system does not have change manager installed/running). And, it is right as the Change Manager is loading on the colsole that the crash occurs.

Our next fix attempt is going to be to remove/disable the change manager and see if this makes it run.

Subject: Moving server ID and ini to different working Domino server…crashes server at part way into server load

Try to move the whole data folder and notes.ini to the new lotus domino server installation. Instead of setting up a new server (with a new id), where you afterwards replace the server id and the ini file.

After you have moved the data folder and the ini file it should just boot, because the whole config is the same in de NAB and INI.

TIP: compact -d before you move the data, this will dicard all views and will make the amount of data to move less.
