Has anyone done a move of many mail files into a different directory (MAIL2) on the same server?
I have tested and it works, but I am concerned about having 2 replicas of the same mail file on one server.
Or, does anyone have suggestions on a different way to do it? I need to be sure that at the end the users person document, location doc, etc points to the actual directory such as Mail2.

If you use the admin client you do not create a replica you move it from location A to location B and it should update the records for you I think.
Create a dummy user (Joe Test) and test on that user. See what happens.

Thanks for the response. However, it creates a replica on the “new server” and the other replica stays until the administrator approves the deletion.
In my case, that would mean 2 replicas on the same server in two different directories. This scares me a bit.
