More multiple select of mailbox messages

I’ve reported a previous issue with multiple select, but now I’d like to extend it to multiple select as a whole. Weird behaviours I’ve noticed:

1: preview pane doesn’t refresh on shift or ctrl based multiple select (already reported)

2: use shift to multiple select a block of messages. using ctrl to deselect won’t load any of the deselected messages unless it was the “last” message in the block that is deselected. Using shift to do a block, and then ctrl to add a few more still only loads a msg when its the last message from the preview box that deselects.

3: multiple selecting down to the last message and then selecting(without key modifier) one of the selected messages to load it, doesn’t cause a load (first message still loaded in preview pane). (this only occurs on the bottom of the list, regardless of sort order in my tests)

Anyone else noticing any other behaviors?

Subject: Did you try the new selection model?

Subject: what is teh new selection model?

I did apply the Mail (R8.5) design to my profile, if thats what you mean.

Subject: change the preference setting

and you’ll get the same selection method as Basic Notes where you can use a mouse to click on a column before Message Type column to select, de-select messages.

You get a check mark when a message is selected.

Give it a try.

Subject: isnt that regressing?

I do know about the older check method, but always hated it because it was so dissimilar to any other applications multiple select. Now that there is a more commonly accepted method, why would I revert ? I’d rather provide feedback on making the new way work better.

Subject: here is another odd behavior

When multiple selecting a large block to delete. If the first selected message has been scrolled off screen, then when you delete the message that will be selected is the top message in the post deletion visible list for the range you were in. I’m not sure if I’m explaining this well, so it would be better to reproduce:

1: Set you message list to only about 5-10 messages visible (mine is higher, but I’m trying to make this easy for you to reproduce)

2: Have atleast 30 messages (preferably unread to get full effect)

3: Scroll to top of list, select the 2nd or 3rd message

4: Scroll down until the selected message moves off screen, then scroll down another 4 messages or so.

5: Shift select one of the messages (there should still be plenty of remaining messages after this point)

6: Delete the messages

Expected result: Should select the message before the first selected message like it does when that message is on the screen

Actual Result: Shifts message list up to fill gap and then selects the top message in the visible message list.
