HiWe have added a Contacts and Group View/Outline to the Firm mail template. The purpose of this customization is to allow Admin Assistants to manage the Contacts of their bosses in the mail boxes that they have been delegated access. These modifications are then synched with the Personal Address Book and mobile devices - smartphones, BBs etc.
We plan to upgrade and use the Standard Client not Basic Client.
In Notes 8.x and above because the mail design are designed as Composite Applications and related Java plugins Modifications to mail design template do not display as expected.
This has been explained in Technote 1314603 dated 17 Feb 2010 as under.

Modifications that do not appear when the application is displayed as a composite application require modifications to related Java plug-ins to accommodate the design change. Since the source code for these Java plug-ins is not provided, you cannot make the necessary changes to the Java plug-ins. It is therefore not possible to have the modifications to display correctly without removing the dependencies of the Java plug-ins.
NOTE: One of the new capabilities offered with the Notes 8.x is the ability to add your own Eclipse-based plug-ins into the Notes user interface (UI) as components of a composite application or as part of the Notes sidebar or toolbar. It is therefore possible to design your own composite application to integrate into the mail template.
