We’re trying to recover an R5 users password on a R6 server/administrator client and we’re having a couple of problems.
On R5 you used the recovery password from the admin client and reset the users password. Now on R6 you tell the user their recovery password and they sort it out themselves. What if though your on an R6 server/admin client and the user your resetting is a R5 client user, how do you reset it then?
The format, structure, and cryptographic content of the recovery passwords have not changed between R5 and R6, just the details of the GUI. The R6 admin(s) can tell the R5 user his or her recovery password(s), and then the user can use the File/Tools/Recover ID menu option or cancel out of the initial password prompt a few times in order to receive the “Recover ID” dialog.
Not sure what you mean, on an R5 client when you cancel the password prompt it then goes to a file dialog prompt asking to choose an ID to switch to. If this is cancelled then the program quits, at no point can you get in to select a File/Tools/Recover ID menu option.
In R5, after cancelling out of the initial password prompt, you will receive a “Switch ID” prompt. After cancelling out of that prompt, you will receive a “Recover ID” prompt. Be careful to only hit escape or cancel once; the two prompts are similar in appearance, and some people just assume that the dialog box failed to go away and hit cancel again.
