Migration

Dear All,

I'm will make an migration of Notes Domain and I'm already created a new Domino Server from R7 to R8 in the new Notes Domain and Organization.

Older → M Martinez/OU/O@OldNotesDomain

Newer → M Martinez/OU/O@NewNotesDomain

The new user names already added in each mailboxes of the old structured and the plan of client reconfiguration is maked also,

All thinks already tested and its works fine with the renames etc...

But in the tests I'm see that we will have problems only in Calendar entries, because the entries have the users informations about the older structure and for this the alarms will do not execution and the server console print a lot of messagens that the SchedAmgr can't processing the calendar entries etc...

Anyone know how to change these calendar appointments for preserve these information ???

The migration will make anyway preserving or not preserving the calendar entries, but its better if I'm can preserve it.

thanks a lot

M Martinez

Subject: I only know of a workaround

which is to continue to serve the old Mail domain for another year or so. - When in the same situation, it was not only calendar documents, but also some reply Mails going to the old Maildomain - not sure which ones, not sure if they existet only because of the customized addressbook on site. This was based on 6.5

What it boiled down to me, was, that I found some gateway server, which was allready running in its own domain, and changed everything there to service the old Maildomain, and added a copy of the old domains names.nsf via Directory Assistance with forwarding adresses for each user to username@Newdomain + did all connection documents necessary. This server had to run for months. (I wanted to keap it up at least long enough to make sure, that all other errors are gone at least for a month or so, before the agent gets switched off, to check if more mails to the old domain arrive, and finaly the server was needed any longer for this purpose).

If you don’t have a server available for this, it is possible to use a foreign domain document to route all Mail to this domain into a gateway database (any database) and I was told that some periodic agent stripping of the wrong domain and pasting the documents again into the servers mail.box did for someone else the tric reliably, too, but to me this feels like a hack.

Subject: o.k. this solves other things, too

  • this is supposed to point at your answer ‘clients’ -

like copy of other users of same domain done from public names.nsf into private names.nsf of users.

In my scenario we did not want to go for it (there the notes domain changed, the certifiyer stuck the same). On the one hand, we did not have a clean answer for the adresses in the local names.nsf, on the other hand, our users sure would have told us something, if we would have just deleted the file.

Subject: One more hint: You have to take care of the domain name of the client, too.

(location document and/or Notes.ini) - My initial tests showed back than, that this was not necessary, but this worked out to not be true, about 20 % of the Machines caused trouble, and we had to go for the all of them.

Subject: clients…

Dear Bernfried,

we will make these steps in the clients,

  1. Delete all things below of KitType=1 entry in notes.ini

  2. Rename bookmark.nsf, cache.dsk, desktop.dsk and names.nsf

  3. Open Notes

  4. Re-setup the client

  5. Open the older names.nsf and copy contacts to new names.nsf

client finished.
