We are migrating from our existing setup of Notes/Domino R5 and cc:Mail Rel6 to Notes/Domino 6.5.
We have today
-
1 Domino R5 admin server,
-
1 Domino R5 mail server
-
1 Domino R5 Application server
-
1 cc:Mail post office connect to Notes using CCMTA but to internet separately with 3rd party gateway. We have about 1000 cc:Mail mobile users.
-
Use Domino for calendaring and applications purpose only within Domino users.
-
cc:Mail users are pure email users.
For some strategic reasons, we will not migrate users from cc:Mail. Instead we will create new users under Notes 6.5 as new users.
I wish to use following method while migrating setup. …
-
Add new Domino 6.5 server to existing domain & Org
-
Create new user for each cc:Mail user in ND6.5
-
Configure client for this user.
-
Send the user script to migrate cc:Mail archives to Notes archives (Not a problem)
-
even if users are migrated, they will use Notes 6.5 primarily for Email and personal calendaring and not for groupware initially.
-
Once cc:Mail users are transferred to Notes, we will migrate R5 to ND6.5 ( Not a problem)
In this changeover, I want to split the administration of two releases during the period we will have R5 & 6.5 both. and then change administration server to one will be on 6.5 platform. From what is documented, I do not see any problem in following this method however, I wish to take advice from experienced administrators who have already migrated setup.
