I would like to create a new R6 domain for my company and begin migrating users from an R5 domain. I want the R6 domain to be new but we have some users with encrypted mail. Can I do anything to make the new user ID’s have the same certificates capable of reading their encrypted mail after they move to the new R6 domain??Thanks

and for a good discussion in here, what is your rationale for creating an entirely new domain?
I have seen good and bad results from others who have taken this approach.

I am going back and forth on this one. The main reason for creating a new R6 domain is to change the domain name itslef. Although this is not really necessary. I’ve always upgraded using the new approach rather than touching the production server. Upgrading the main Notes server controlling the directory does not appeal to me. By creating a new Domain, and linking it woth the old, I can slowly move people one at a time and then simply turn off the old domain when complete.

If your reason is not based on a strategic business decision, to me it is not worth the time, hassle, headache etc to create a new domain.

Just to throw in my 2 cents worth …
We migrated 12,000 + users from R5.0.9c to R6.0.1 without many problems (that were related to Notes, anyway). We were able to keep the same domain running. We had upgraded the servers first and let them run for a period. Then over the course of about 1-1/2 to 2 weeks, we upgraded all the clients.

All you can do is cross certify the old id’s in the new domain, which would allow them to use the old ones while reading the encrypted mail. If it is of any value they could resend the encrypted mail to themselves in the new domain at the same time they do that. It may be a crazy idea if there is bulk, but it would be a valid workaround.

I did it (way back in the R3 days, tho). I was part of an organization that was “spun out” of another organization, and we needed our own cert (also the old org went a little heavy on the OU’s). One thing you can do is get a copy of peoples Notes ID’s and manually recertify them into the new domain. You can then cut and paste their person document into the new NAB and make the changes that you need, it is kind of a PITA, but it can save your trouble down the road.

I assume that you not only want to change the Domain but also change the certification of the users, e.g. the Organisation.
I think that if you select the people in the Domino Directory and recertify them with the new certifier then they will keep the same public/private keys and hence be able to read encrypted mail.
