Migrating LSXLC – MSSQL to R7

Hi!

I’m trying to migrate a rather old .nsf from R5 to R7 (7.0.2).

The application uses LSXLC to connect to a MSSQL server.

In order to get the LSXLC classes to work I have installed my client with DECS which seemed to do the trick. Now I can compile the LS code without errors, so I guess the LSXLC classes are in place.

But I still can’t connect, runtime, to my MSSQL server.

On our old R5 setup the application also utilizes two files NTWDBLIB.DLL and NMSSQL.LCX.

I tried copying the two files to the workstation running R7 client, but ether I’m putting them in the wrong folder or I’m in need of new versions – especially of the NMSSQL.LCX.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I think I’m close, but can’t find the info I need in order to make everything work.

I also need to know how to setup the Domino R7 server for my scheduled LSXLC-agents to run.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :o)

Best wishes

What happens when you try to connect? And which connector are you using (odbc, oledb)?

Subject: A few more details

Hi Guys.

Sorry, I should have provided more details:

I’m not using ODBC, but the LCSESSION and LCCONNECTION classes.

When creating a new LCConnection object e.g.:

Set src = New LCConnection(“mssql”),

I get the following error: “Error creating product object”

I believe the LCxxx classes are contained somewhere in the DECS (in R5 it was part of the standard client installation).

When I installed DECS I was able to compile the LS code, and my runtime errormsg changed from ‘Unable to load LSXLC’ to the one above.

The file NMSSQL.LCX is, I think, the ‘driver’ that is used when crating a New LCConnection of the ‘mssql’ flavour. In R5 this file is found in the Notes-directory.

Who supplied this file I don’t know. In the old application I inherited the file is detached along with NTWDBLIB.DLL to the Notes-directory upon opening.

It must come from IBM or MS, but I am unable to finde any reference to it.

The application is a very old one. I/We would really rather not touch it more than necessary.

I believe the old connector referrered to as “mssql” has been updated to “oledb”. You may have to install a MSSQL client locally to use it on your workstation.

Change the following line: Set src = New LCConnection(“mssql”) to

Set src = New LCConnection(“oledb”)

You may have to provide additional parameters for this connection, not sure.

Just what I needed.

Thanks a lot to all who responded.

Sounds like your problem may well be the new workstation, not the new Notes version.

LSXLC provides a wrapper to the various database connection libraries, in this case the Microsoft SQL ones. Sounds like you don’t have those installed or they are not on the current path. How to get them… no clue. First check your ODBC data sources, do you have one for MSSQL registered?
