Hi,
I want to have my Domino R4.6 server be migrated to R6 (a new box). Is there any outstanding tasks that need to be performed prior to the migration?
Here are the steps that I have in mind:
-
Setup Windows 2000 Server and Lotus Domino R6 on new server.
-
Upgrade all Notes clients to R6.
-
Copy all NSF file from existing R4 server to new R6 server, locate all the NSF files in the \Lotus\Domino\Data folder.
-
Replace design of names.nsf.
Is there any steps that I have missed out?
Thank you.

Hi JulieCurrently I am working on the very thing that you are questioning this forum about… Notes 4.67 upgrade to Domino 6.01.
There are a large number of issues to consider and nail down before you perform this upgrade.
-
Hardware requirements for D6.01
-
Client Hardware requirements
-
Client training
-
DST conversion (Day Light Saving)
-
Bugs in the client install (N4.67 desktop does not convert well to D6 desktop)
-
Policies and settings
-
Transaction logging
-
3rd party software (Blackberry, mail attender, Sequal Num and so on) Does it work with D6.
-
Protecting user created mail folders if you are going to update the mail template.
-
co-existance of N4 clients and D6 clients.
-
ECL settings (something that we didn’t really have to worry about in N4)
I have a huge list of issues and answers to the upgrade from N4 to D6 but their wouldn’t be enough room in this forum to address them all with the appropriate solutions.
If you have any specific questions I could help you address them one by one.
Just post them here and I will share my current experiences with you.
(this open to any one and everyone)
Cheers
Jamie

I would…1. Create the directory structure on the new server. (lotus\domino\data) or your standard.
-
Copy the notes.ini from old server to new server program directory (lotus\domino)
-
Update the notes.ini path settings to reflect any changes in drive letters or paths.
-
Copy all the .ns? files from the old server to the new server in the same paths renaming them to .nsf.
-
Install Domino 6 in the corresponding paths.
-
Start the server and answer Y to the prompt to upgrade design and then test
-
Then do your client upgrades whenever you like and coordinate the database design updates following those upgrades.
There might be other data to copy when using shared mail but I’ve never actually witnessed anyone using shared mail so I’m just speculating.
Plus if you are using other 3rd party tools you need to know the impact on those (backup, virus scanning, etc)
And read the upgrade guide.
