Does anyone have any experience or a good document that could help point in the direction of migrating from Lotus Notes on an AS400 platform to a Wintel platform? This would be Lotus to Lotus, IBM to Windows/Intel.
Thanks so much.

Well, I’d first say are you SURE you want to do that. The iSeries is a MUCH better platform and there’s no issue of needing additional Windows Cals…
Now I’m not an Admin… BUT…
Assuming that you’re not married to your server NAME… I’d just setup a new server in your domain and replicate all the databases over to it. Get your users pointed to the new server and you should be good to go for the most part…

I don’t have documentation to reference but if possible, I’d suggest a “transplant” approach. In other words . . .take the old server down,
back it up to tape, etc,
assign the ip address of the old server to the new server,
install and configure the new server using the name of the old server,
restore the databases to the new server,
fire up the new server.
I probably left out a step or two but you get the general idea. We did this successfully for two different servers. Aside from the downtime, the change should be transparent to your users. If you have any agents that touch relational data on the AS/400 you’ll obviosly want to test those beforehand.

Dallas is correct - it would be a simple move. If you don’t have the same tape technology available for that Windows box you could always FTP the data from the System i to Windows.

You will benefit from reading the Cross Platform migration advice discussed in Chapter 14 of the IBM Redbook here

(even although in that book they are discussing the issues moving TO IBM
)
The redbook addresses, amoung other things…
Actually testing your applications first before migrating the production environment
Concerns about extensions to standard Domino features, so if using custom dbs with agents which access the filesystem etc, anticipate issues with file paths, drive letters etc.
