Hi

it depends on many things !

Could you have a server breakdown for a while ?

If yes, just hard-copy your database files to the new server, after having turned off both (old & new servers).

If not, consider changing your domain, and then replicate before telling your users where to find the new ones.

If you cannot, separate your to networks, install the new domino on AIX, copy the files via a ‘tape’ or something, turn off the old domino, and then re-wire the new AIX network…

In all of the cases you’ll have to wonder if the domain name is important, if you may have a net breakdown, and how to make your users use the new server.

What will be correct Method for moving from Windows to AIX?

  1. Install secondary server on AIX, Replicate all the database on to the new server, decommission the old server.

  2. Install Domino server on aix using the existing server id file, Copy entire data folder into notesdata folder, modify the old notes.ini from widows server to change ‘C:\lotus\Domino\Data’ string with '\opt\ibm\lotus\notesdata' and start the server.

As I said, it depends on two things :

  1. could you shut down the windows server for a while ?

  2. do you have to keep the same domain ?

When you’ll knwn that, you’ll know what is the best solution.

Btw,keeping the server ID means keeping the domain name and the server name too.

Thanks Yannick for your reply…

I want to keep the same domain …i just want to change the Platform ie from windows to AIX…i can shutdown the windows server for a while…Are the steps given below good enough…

  1. Shutdown the Domino server running on windows

  2. Install Domino Server on Aix using the server ID and cert id file from windows server.

  3. Copy all the files in ‘C:\lotus\notes\data’ to ‘/opt/ibm/notesdata’ folder on AIX

  4. Modify the notes.ini file to change the path of programs and data folders ie: ‘c:\lotus\notes\data’ to ‘/opt/ibm/notesdata’

5)Start the Domino server on aix…

  1. Run Fixup, Compact and updall on all databases.

Have i left anything…

What about the ownership rights on files copied to aix’s notesdata folder…Do i have to assign ownership rights to user ‘notes’ ?

Hi back

I think it’s correct,

but, in order to comply with both Lotus security and unix philosophy, you’ll have to create a new user.

Install Domino under its reign.

Most of the time ‘domino’ or something like ‘d_admin’ will be fine (same group will be the easier).

Give access to all the files to this user with something like ‘chmod 755’ …

Thanks Yannick…

Need your valuable advice on this…The scenario is like this…

Current Setup:

A Domino Utility Server running on Windows say Domwin, Users are accessing this server.

Expected Setup:

  • One ICM Server running on Windows

  • Two Domino Utility servers in cluster mode on AIX servers

Planned Procedure:

  1. Register Secondary Domino server say Domaix1 from Domwin server and install it on aix.

  2. Replicate all the databases from Domwin server on Domaix1

  3. Register Third Domino server say Domaix2 from Domwin server and install it on second aix server.

  4. Replicate All the databases from Domaix1 to Domaix2.

  5. Create a Cluster by Adding Both Domaix1 and Domaix2 servers.

  6. Configure DomWin server as ICM

  7. Remove original databases from Domwin server. These databases have already been replicated to Domaix1 server.

Now the users accesses the same server Domwin server, which is now an ICM server, and will be redirected to either Domaix1 or Domaix2.

Hope I Am Correct…? Or is there any better way.

Do you forsee any problems in implementing this…?
