hii have two domino 7 servers clustered with each other.am not using lotus clients instead i am using outlook or microsft outlook clients to access their mail files using pop3 and all. the question is if the one server goes down how would the outlook clients be redirected to the other server who is the member of cluster.other one is if i use outlook client by default it will pull all the mails from server hence cutting it from server i can leave the copy on the server by making changes in the outlook client.is their any way i can set it up on the server level which would be effective for all the users hence leaving the copy on the server.any body can help …

“if the one server goes down how would the outlook clients be redirected to the other server who is the member of cluster.”
You may be able to find some type of Internet Clustering software or hardware that would provide failover for the POP3 protocol. Otherwise, you would have to change an internal DNS entry or the hosts file on the client machine so that it would look for the other server’s IP address.
One other thing to consider with POP3 in a clustered environment is the synchronization (or lack thereof) of unread marks between the cluster replicas. If you start polling for mail from the other cluster server you will probably have some “unread” messages that would be pulled back down into Outlook because they were out of sync in the cluster replicas.

I don’t believe there is a way to change this at the server level.

You might be able to prevent delete with the ACL couldn’t you?

To connect Microsoft Outlook Express 6 to the Domino LDAP server …
-
Tools / Address Book
-
Tools / Accounts / Add
-
Specify the name of your Domino LDAP server. Check “My LDAP server requires me to log on” if anonymous access is disabled by your Domino LDAP server. Click Next.
-
Enter your Notes name in LDAP format (simplistically, use tags and replace slashes with commas) and your HTTPPassword.
-
Your searches may not work as-is because Outlook Express sneaks in a search base of C=US, which you Domino directory probably does not have. You can correct this by either:
A. Consulting the technote LDAP search with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express client fails on Domino server.
B. Enter a non-empty search base like “O=klin2”. However this has the drawback that it limits searches to Notes names matching */O=klin2
